This is a sequence of the 3rd movement of Khachaturian's 2nd Symphony, written in 1944. The main theme is that of an Azerbayjani funeral march, employed in honor of those who died fighting the Nazi invasion. Khachaturian, as several composers before him, employs the "Dies Irae", from the Latin mass for the dead, as one of the central themes. I have used a Proteus 2 sound module, backed up by a Korg O3R/W sound module (tracks using the Korg begin with a "K"). All tracks have been transposed to concert pitch. Note, to minimize the number of channels employed I have had the timpani track share a channel with a cellos/basses track. The "extra" cellos/basses track proved necessary due to half these sections at various times playing pizzicato while the other half played arco (bowed). For those unable to read the notes within the tracks the cellos/basses track contains bowed noted for the following bars (with the appropriate program changes)- arco cellos: 64-75 and 80-82; arco basses: 151-164.
