This is a sequence of the 4th movement of Shostakovich's 10th Symphony. To save tracks, I have put the solo instruments on the same track as their instrumental sections; so, for example, in the clarinets track, program 28 is a solo clarinet and 67 is a clarinet section of 2 clarinets. Other instrumental assignments are as follows: Solo Section Flutes 24 65 Eb Clarinet 69 (using Proteus 2 program 158) Oboes 26 66 Bassoons 30 68 Trumpet 39 or 40 41 Mute Trumpet 42 Trombones 43 or 44 103 French Horns 36 or 37 38 Tuba 45 The Proteus 2 has separate programs for p/mf or ff samples for brass instruments. In addition, program 64 is a non-transposing English horn program. Arco Pizzicato Violins 8 16 Violas 7 15 Cellos 6 14 Basses 5 13 Tremolo Strings: 19; 20 with a crescendo I had to use the GM Tuba program from my Korg O3R/W despite my attempts to conserve tracks. Arco and pizzicato string sections have their own tracks but share a MIDI channel. Untuned percussion are program 58. Note that while a transposing key may be in the name of the track, all tracks have been transposed to "true pitch" (i.e. as they actually sound). I've left the names as they are in the score for the information of those who would like this information. Bars & Pipes Professional users will see notes in the area provided for track notes. BTW, the only sound module I know that has transposing programs is the Proteus 2, so this remark only applies to those tracks that are sequenced for the P2 (i.e., those without a "Korg" or an "SSU" in the track name). I have chosen the above compromise for those who cannot handle a large number of track and do not have a multi-port MIDI interface (or perhaps only a Proteus 2). I realize changing programs within a track is a nuisance to edit if you do not have a Proteus 2, but the alternative is to bloat the number of tracks (and it takes a lot of time to separate out the solo and the pizzicato passages, etc.) And don't get me started on the subject of General MIDI: it's not just that there's no bass clarinet, for instance, it's just that there's only room for one (at most) version of most instruments and it's usually only a solo instrument. Regarding track labelling, note that some tracks with the same number are NOT indeed sharing tracks; it's just that you aren't using the same multi-port MIDI interface that I am. If the word "Korg" or "SSU" is in the track name, these are on a separate MIDI Out. Likewise, anything with "OSMS" n the track name is playing from the E-mu Sound Engine audio card. The Korg is question is the O3R/W; "SSU" means the Sound Source Unlimited programs from the factory A bank sounds; "Korg" may mean either the Korg-made Orchestral PCM card or the GM (G) banks sounds. The extra tracks playing the same notes (in the case of the brass) are entered only when reinforcement (layering) are needed for the desired prominence of their melodic line. Although it increases the number of tracks, I did not want to omit them and suggest that the Proteus 2 brass alone can always provide the volume needed. And, of course, you deserve to see the score the way I've sequenced it. In some cases the number of tracks for a given file may be too many for a significant number of people to download. In such a case, I will consider uploading a version without the layering, but don't say I didn't warn you ! Note that in this fourth movement: I've put pizzicato 2nd violins in the Tremolo Strings track in bars 578-589 (only) to save a track, as the 1st violins are playing arco at this point.
